Worship
at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection follows the characteristic
pattern of the Christian church when it gathers on Sunday, the day of
resurrection. Reading of the Word and strong preaching make up the first
half of the service, and strong celebration of Holy Communion provides
the second half. Congregation and choir gather with a rich variety of
song around pulpit and table, sometimes with the many instruments people
in our church play. We sing with vigor – five or more settings of the
liturgy at different times in the Church Year and the ecumenical spread
of hymnic resources the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America provides.
The three-year ecumenical lectionary and the
contours of the Church Year discipline our practice. Maundy Thursday,
Good Friday, and the Great Vigil of Easter form the year’s center. The
weekly Biblical passages are fodder for preaching as well as for study
at home and in classes. During Advent and Lent on Wednesday evenings we
gather for Evening Prayer. On Wednesday
mornings a small group gathers in the Fireside Room to sing and pray
Morning Prayer or the morning form of Responsive Prayer.
We welcome visitors to join us in
our worship, to participate with us in the educational forums that
follow in the Fireside Room, and to go with us into the world where it
propels us as Christ’s body. |
